James Maggs proudly holding his winning trophy

The British Championships 2012, well I enjoyed it! Quite a few people seem had a lot of moans and complaints about it, mostly concerning the venue. I think you lot have been spoilt! Yes there were a lot of people, and yes it was quite packed, yes there weren’t as many rings and the tournament went on for longer, but the feeling of comeraderie between everyone and general good spirit made it a fine day. There was a lot of good martial art to be seen and enjoyed! Other than taking longer than we have been used to in recent years it was all very smooth and civilised.

Many many of the competitors from our clubs came home with medals (see results below), for me two fighters stand out particularly; James Maggs achieving gold in red belt heavyweight sparring and Elisha Bogle getting silver in ladies black belt middle weight. Both of you could go a long way particularly at black belt level – my advice however would be to increase your sparring stamina.

Congratulations to everyone – the list is as follows:-

  • Ben Bennett, boys green belt lightweight sparring bronze
  • Elisha Bogle, ladies black belt middleweight sparring silver
  • Ben Carlsson, mens green belt middleweight sparring gold
  • Pam Dulay, executive ladies black belt sparring silver
  • Steve Ellans, mens yellow belt heavyweight sparring bronze
  • Lily Hutchinson, ladies blue belt middleweight sparring bronze
  • Emma Lloyd, ladies black belt heavyweight sparring bronze
  • George Lopresti, boys red belt middleweight sparring bronze
  • Giovanni Lopresti, mens blue belt middleweight sparring bronze
  • James Maggs, mens red belt heavyweight sparring gold
  • Dawid Walas, Ben Carlsson, Steve Ellans mens yellow/green belt tag team gold

Now stop whinging, and start saying how good it was! 😉
