Whatever your age, ability, gender or aims, we welcome everyone to our TKD family.
We teach Taekwon-Do from a beginner level, right through to Master level.
What is TaeKwon-Do?
TaeKwon-Do is a first cousin of Karate, a cross between Karate and Kickboxing. It’s a martial art developed in South Korea, based on centuries old forms of unarmed fighting for self-defence.
Translated from Korean, TaeKwon-Do means ‘The way of the foot and hand’.

Beginners classes
Beginners start in our main class to join our whole class warm-up. They are then taught separately for the first few weeks until each has a good grasp of the basics – at which point they will be slowly introduced into training in the main class.
Where Can I train?
Bristol TaeKwon-Do trains in three locations:

 | Each club trains twice a week and you can train as much as you like – all six nights if you want! But we ask you to aim at two nights a week as a minimum. |
 | You can train one night at one club, one night at another, but we wouldn’t recommend two nights in a row – this isn’t ideal from a fitness point of view! |

TKD for Children
Thinking of Transferring or Re-starting?
We often have students transfer to us, both from other TaeKwon-Do clubs and organisations, or even from completely different martial arts. All are very welcome at any of our clubs. If you are a TaeKwon-Do student who trained (either with us or elsewhere) many years ago but are thinking about giving it another go – please do come along!
Previous black belts are always recognised, and colour belt students will be assessed and often fast-tracked through to a belt colour where they are comfortable. If this is you, please feel free to get in touch.
Prices
1st month’s training completely FREE.
£45 per month per student thereafter for up to SIX nights a week!
Family memberships – the 2nd family member £45, 3rd is £25, 4th £15 and the fifth is FREE!
Yearly membership fee (includes basic insurance) £38.

How Often Should
I train?
We ask that everyone aims at a minimum of two nights per week (children and adults!), at any of our three venues.
Between gradings (exams) each belt colour is taught everything they need to pass their next grading. Miss too much and you’ll likely need to miss your next grading.
What if I miss some lessons?
You can make up for missed lessons by training at any of our other venues. Though we don’t expect everyone to manage 100% attendance!
Can I train at different clubs?
Yes, you can train on whatever nights and venues suit you, at all six if you like!
Am I fit enough?
We don’t expect beginners to be athletes already!
Most beginners tend to be somewhat unfit – we try to fix that! You’ll get out of breath, hot and sweaty in our classes. You’ll probably also experience some DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) – the aching you feel one to two days after exercising – this is a GOOD thing! It means you are getting fitter and stronger!

If you have any health concerns or conditions that may affect your ability to train, please discuss them with us before coming along. We also recommend discussing any concerns with your doctor.

Coloured belt student handbooks – all the theory needed for gradings – £15.
Are there exams?
Yes. Like most martial arts we have a coloured & black belt system which allows you to gradually progress through our syllabus. It is a fantastic way to see just how far you have progressed in your fitness, level of knowledge & skill in TaeKwon-Do.
Coloured belt gradings are available every three months and cost £28.
We recycle coloured belts – when you move up a grade we take back your old one and provide you a new or second hand one. Or you can keep your old belt at a cost of £3 and we will give you a brand new belt.
How do I start?
Please contact us before coming along so that we can ensure there is an instructor available to teach you.

Disabilities / neurodivergence
All of our instructors have undertaken inclusion training. Many martial arts students are neurodivergent (it seems to work well!). If you have a physical disability, please contact us to discuss this.
