PUMA British Championships 2025

We are looking forward to supporting the PUMA British TaeKwon-Do Championships which will be taking place on Sunday 2nd November 2025. at Thornbury Leisure Centre Alveston Hill, Thornbury BS35 3JB what3words:perfectly.forklift.rotation.  There will be individual patterns, high kick event for juniors, sparring and destruction (adult senior grades only). Entries cost £35 for the first event entered plus a further £5 for each subsequent event, spectators cost £5 on the door. Doboks must be worn and full sparring kit taken for all those wishing to enter sparring events.

Please note there is a large, free car park on site. There is also a small café in the leisure centre and a Tescos nearby.

Junior High Kick – for children aged 8 – 14, coloured belts only. Divisions: <140cm, 141 – 150cm, 151 – 160cm, 161 – 170cm, 170cm+. The aim is to kick a ball suspended on a rope – NO JUMPING!

Sparring – Males and females will be in separate divisions. NO FACIAL CONTACT PERMITTED (you will receive a warning – contact with the headguard IS permitted). You may be asked to wear PUMA sparring gloves which will be provided, likewise you may be asked to wear PUMA forearm protectors – these will also be provided.

8th kup to 5th kup will be point stop, blue belt and above continuous sparring. The sparring weight divisions will be as follows:

Junior Divisions (ages 8-13): <140cm, 141 – 150cm, 151 – 160cm, 161 – 170cm, >170cm

Cadet Divisions (ages 14 – 17) Female: <46kg, 46 – 51kg, 52 – 57kg, 58 – 64kg, 65kg+, Male >51kg, 51 – 56kg, 57 – 63kg, 64 – 70kg, 71kg+

Adult Divisions (18+): Colour Belts, Female: <58kg, 58-63 kg, 64-70kg, 71kg+, Male: <64kg, 65 – 72kg, 73 – 80kg, 81kg+

Black Belts, Female: <57kg, 58 – 63kg, 64-70kg, 71kg+, Male: <58kg, 59 – 64kg, 65-70kg, 71-76kg, 77-80kg, 81kg+

The sparring rules are those that we are used to with the exception of the travelling rule where you will receive a warning for the first time out of area, minus one point for the subsequent, then warning for the next and then minus one point for the next etc.

Destruction Competitors will be split by gender and grade. Only open to 18+ blue belt and above.

Male Divisions: Blue/Red Belts – HAND – Knife hand strike, FOOT, standing side kick Black Belts: – HAND any technique including elbow, FOOT Jumping back kick.

Female Divisions: Blue/Red Belts – HAND – any hand technique including elbow, FOOT any standing kick Black Belts: HAND Any hand technique including elbow, FOOT Any jumping or flying kick.

Note: Competitors can enter for BOTH hand and foot (at extra cost).

10:00am – Junior weigh-in & Little P.U.M.A Registration
10:30am – Musical patterns
10:30am – Bo Staff Patterns
10:30am – Little P.U.M.A. Events Start
10:30 am – Junior Events Start
12:30 pm – Adult Coloured Belt weigh-in followed by patterns and sparring
1.30pm – All black belt divisions.
Please note that the noted times are a guide, and are subject to change.

Note there will be other events taking place on the day which we have not prepared our students for or are not covered by our syllabus – but may be fun to watch! These will be ‘spartan combat’, ‘little puma team drills’ and ‘little puma tag sparring’.

Officials: If you are a fully or semi qualified official and you would like to volunteer to help on the day, please email tournamentofficials@puma-uk.com by 27th October to let them know. Officials must report to the top table at 9.15am.
